a book index

i made it a slower day today. to my surprise, i felt like writing for my german book blog – i took a photo of the books i read here so far, and wrote about them, quoting some lines. and while taking the photo and typing, i had this thought – that i could make a list of the books in the blog when i am home. and then later, i realized that with the tag / index function of blogger, this really is easy. now i look forward to going through the entries of the past.

and another idea i had .. maybe it was a bit induced by Doris Lessing, and what she said about re-reading a text, how it can feel different after a while. i want to read through the stories and poems i wrote. i am thinking of putting a collection together. this revisiting of my own words might be a bit like a counter-current to the joined work on 2028.

those 2 ideas made me think again how precious it is to have some time off, and how being here brings unexpected new ideas. plus, it's great to have time to read, to be able to stay with a book. on tuesday, i started to read George Orwell – his book „animal farm“. i also have a bio about him. he worked in Burma for a while. later, he lived in Paris, where he met Henry Miller. and again later, he spent some time in Marrakesh. but all this time, he was poor, struggling hard, unsure where his life was leading to. It's interesting, to read the bio parallel to the book (which was the one that finally brought him a good income. but at the time, he already knew he wouldn't have that long to live, even though he was just 40, but he had tuberculosis).
