Maron / Berlin

i read a story in a book from Monika Maron – she is from Berlin, and that's what the stories in the book are about, reflections on Berlin. and one is about the Berlin Reichstag, and how it was wrapped up by Christo. when i saw the bulb later, they reminded me of Christo's art, of wrapping things up. and more… i just googled a christo project photo page, and there are images of wrapped up trees included. i didn't remember this: Christo - Photos.

another aspect, connected to the thoughts about art as a process - what touched me about the page of the dress designer is how long she stays with an idea. which also connects to a line from Monika Maron and her story on Christo and the Berlin Reichstag. Christo tried 24 years to get the permission to wrap the Reichstag, and finally, in 1995 (5 years after the german reunion), he could realize it, and he choose the 24th june for the official opening day of the wrapping. which is the year day of the berlin blocking of 24. june 1948, the day that started the split of berlin.

this is what Maron wrote in her story, in a rough translation:

“The good mood that this thing spreads is pure fancy. someone held on 24 years to a fix idea, to be able to place such a beautiful and glittering sense-free-lessness on our lawn. If this is possible, there also must be more things possible.”

art. it is everywhere, when we take a closer look.
